Breaking: At Least 60 Dead as Overcrowded Boat Sinks in Niger State



A tragic boat accident on the River Niger in Tungan Sule has claimed at least 60 lives, with more injured and missing. The boat, carrying over 100 passengers heading to a burial, struck a submerged tree stump and capsized. 

Rescue efforts have saved around 50 individuals, while at least 10 remain in critical condition. Most of the victims were women and children

Overloading and poor enforcement of water safety regulations were cited as primary causes.


The government has launched a “No Life Jacket, No Travel” campaign and plans to distribute 42,000 life jackets nationwide
