Hunger Crisis Deepens as Aid Cuts Starve Millions in Northeastern Nigeria

Cuts to humanitarian aid from the U.S. and European nations have severely reduced food supplies in northeastern Nigeria. With 31 million Nigerians facing food insecurity—the highest globally—the situation is dire, particularly in conflict-ravaged Borno State

Impacts & Concerns:

The UN slashed Nigeria’s humanitarian budget from $910 million to $300 million; only half of this has been funded.

The World Food Programme closed 150 nutrition centers, leaving therapeutic food shortages that put 600,000 children at grave risk.

Though the U.S. has pledged $32.5 million in new aid, it remains far from covering the shortfall
